ILION-Helen C. (Sohns) Durand, age 80, of Weber Avenue, Ilion passed away on April 27, 2008. She was born on July 22, 1927 in Jermyn, PA, daughter of the late William J. and Helen M. (Morcom) Sohns. Mrs. Durand graduated from Union-Endicott High School. She then went on to obtain a New York State Nurses Aid Certification. On August 17, 1946 she married Harold A. Durand in Herkimer, a union of over 61 years. Mrs. Durand was the owner/operator of Colonial Rest Home, in Richfield Springs. She is survived by her husband, Harold; a daughter, Dawn Davis and husband David of Cumberland, MD; her sons, Douglas and his wife Debbie of Montgomery, TX, Dale and his wife Deborah of Equinunk, PA, and Dwayne and wife Sue of Middleville; a sister, Lois Kast of Schuyler; and a brother William Sohns and wife Ann of Mohawk; eight grandchildren: Sandra and Michael Mattocks, Shannon Huffman, Justin Durand, Leigh Topete, Joshua and Aaron Durand and Becky Krenowsky; five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Edward Sohns. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Richfield Springs Bible Church,17 Church Street, Richfield Springs on Tuesday evening, April 29, 2008 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. At the conclusion of calling hours, funeral services will be officiated by her son, The Reverend Dwayne Durand, assisted by Pastor Alan Miller. Burial will be Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 11:00 am in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Little Falls. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Richfield Springs Bible Church Building Fund or the Kuyahoora Community Church Building Fund.
