Obituary of Gordon Ellis

Mr. Gordon L. Ellis Jr. 80 a Dolgeville resident, and also of 89 Pine Trail, Dallas, Georgia died Tuesday August 12, 2008 at the Tranquility Center for Hospice in Austell, Georgia. He was born on July 28, 1928 in Salisbury, New York the son of Gordon and Ethel (Busch) Ellis and was educated in Dolgeville schools. “Bud” as he was known was united in marriage to the former Bertha L. “Beth” Ernye on November 20, 1948 in Dolgeville. Mrs. Ellis predeceased him on August 1, 2005. Gordon was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict from January 1952 until January 1954. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. Bud was employed by the United States Government at Griffis Air Force Base in Rome, New York from 1968 until he retired in 1988. He served as the assistant Chief of Operations for the fire department at the air base. His interest and knowledge in fire fighting was evident as he served as chief of the Dolgeville Fire Department for two terms from 1965-67, he also was a New York state Fire Instructor, along with a First Aid Instructor for the Little Falls Chapter of the American Red Cross. His personal interests included fishing, hunting and baseball. While serving in the Army he was on the Baseball team in Fort Sill, OK, and was an outstanding left handed picture. He was scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals, but chose to enlist in the service. He was an avid New York Yankee fan. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his wife and family at their camp on Pecks Lake for a number of years. He is survived by his Sons and their wives Terry and Marianne Ellis of Dolgeville, Kevin and Linda Ellis of Dallas, Georgia, a Daughter and her husband Cheryl and John Toher of Dolgeville, his Grandchildren , Kimberly and James Pierce, Kelly and Bruce Baird, Katrina Ellis, Christopher and Meghan Ellis, his great grandchildren Katie and James Pierce, and Kelcie and Jacob Baird, A Brother in law and his wife Richard and Carol Ernye of Dolgeville, his Sisters in law Esther Ellis, Arlene Ellis and Kathryn Erney all of Dolgeville and Zaida Valik of Utica. He was predeceased by his Brothers Gary in 1996, Robert in 1999 and Calvin in 2005. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:30 AM at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Burial will follow in the Dolgeville Cemetery. The Rev. Dwayne A. Durand of Newport will officiate. Calling hours are on Friday (Today) from 5-8 PM and Saturday morning from 10 Am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
