Obituary of Nancy Fortuna

Ilion: Nancy L. Fortuna, age 92, of Elm Street, Ilion, passed away on Sunday, September 07, 2008 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Fortuna was born on March 3, 1916 in Arpaia, Italy, a daughter of Umberto Moretti and Theresa (Servadio) Moretti. She was educated in Herkimer High School. She was married to Joseph Fortuna on October 4, 1938, who predeceased her on October 11, 1969. Nancy was last employed at Mohawk Data Sciences in Herkimer, retiring in 1981. She was previously employed at Sperry Rand-UNIVAC, and many years ago at the family’s restaurant in Ilion, “The St. Regis Restaurant.” A communicant of Annunciation Church in Ilion she was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of the Little Theatre Club, Home Bureau, Catholic Daughters Court St. Bridget, and was a volunteer for the Meals Program at London Towers. Mrs. Fortuna is survived by her loving family; her son, Joseph J. Fortuna of Penn Yan; two daughters, Erminia and Robert Ortlieb of Baldwinsville and Dolores and Paull Watkins of Ilion; one sister, Mary Byron of Liberty; and her grandchildren, Joanne, Gerald, Gloria and David Fortuna, Renee and Eric Ames, Robert and Charulata Ortlieb, Joseph Ortlieb, Damian and Jennifer Watkins, and Andrea and Paul Donahue; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her in-laws, Fannie, Louise, and Theresa Moretti and Anna Leone. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Fortuna was predeceased by her brothers, Louis, Patsy, John, Fiory and Michael Moretti. Mrs. Fortuna’s funeral services will commence on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. with a prayer service at the Enea Family Funeral Home, with procession to Annunciation Church, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by the Reverend Alfred Lamanna, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Ilion, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Relatives and friends may call at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. The Catholic Daughters Court St. Bridget will meet at 7:00 p.m. to conduct their memorial service. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Valley Health Services for the wonderful care given to their mom. Memorial contributions may be made during calling hours to Valley Health Services Memorial Garden; envelopes will be available, as well.
