Obituary of Norman Frederick

FRANKFORT/SCHUYLER-Norman James Frederick, 57, of Millers Grove Rd., Frankfort, (town of Schuyler) entered into eternal rest on Wednesday afternoon, April 9, 2008 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. A man of great health, his death was unexpected. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing. He came into this world on March 21st 1951 in Ilion, son of the late William Henry Frederick and Dorothy (Pett) Frederick who resides in Ilion. Norm was educated in the Mohawk Central School System where he graduated from high school. He then furthered his education by attending Syracuse University, SUNY Morrisville and graduating from Utica College with a degree in Medical Technology. He received a master's degree in healthcare administration from Empire College. After a friendship of many years, on October 9, 2005, he married Rebecca (VanDusen) Young in Cooperstown. The couple shared an enduring and steadfast commitment and were devoted to each other's well-being and to that of the family they cared for. For 25 years, Norm was a loyal and well-respected employee at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown where he worked as a Clinical Laboratory Systems Specialist. He considered his fellow employees at work his "second family" and found great satisfaction in his commitment to healthcare. Mr. Frederick was a man of great health, energy, and perseverance who motivated and inspired all those within his company and influence. Norm enjoyed working out every day before work at the Clarks Sports Center in Cooperstown. For the past 15 years, he trained for and completed the Utica Boilermaker 15 kilometer road race. In 1998 he ran and finished the Kiawah Island Marathon with his brother Larry at his side and he always considered this a noteworthy accomplishment in his running career. Throughout his life, Norm made a strong impact on other people with his kind and gentle spirit, both within his family circle and beyond, and he leaves them with many inspiring memories. He was an avid outdoorsman who appreciated the beauty and peace of the outdoors. His motorcycle and the ride to Cooperstown each day were cherished moments, weather permitting. Mere words seem inadequate to express the family's gratitude to the team of professionals employed at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown. Sincere thanks is extended to all the medical professionals and caregivers whose expertise, concern and compassion were so meaningful to Becky and her family: especially those in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and laboratory staff at Bassett Healthcare.
