Obituary of David Gage

MOHAWK-Mr. David W. Gage, Sr., 66, of Marshall Ave., Mohawk, passed away after an extended illness on Friday evening, May 9th, 2008 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, with the consoling comfort of his family by his side. His funeral will commence at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2008 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home (Herkimer) with the Rev. Brian Engel, pastor of Mohawk Reformed Church officiating. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 4-6 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. David was born in Mohawk on December 4, 1941, son of the late Leland Gage and Esther (Jackson) Miller of Mohawk. He graduated with the Mohawk High School "Class of 1958" and attended Herkimer County Community College. On April 11, 1992 he was united in marriage to Connie (Reardon) Bernier in Mohawk, a union of 16 years. Dave was last employed with the county of Herkimer in the social services department and was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church. He was an exempt Mohawk Volunteer Firefighter and enjoyed the outdoors. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and go camping. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, his presence will be missed by all who knew him. He leaves his wife Connie of Mohawk; his children: David Gage, Jr., of San Antonio, TX., Lynne (Gage) Ford also of San Antonio, TX, Marcus Gage and wife Carolyn of Henrietta, Tom Bernier and wife Sheila of Herkimer, and Donna Allport and husband Kevin of Hilton; two brothers: Leland Gage of Pa. and James "Jim" Gage and wife Winona of Herkimer; his cherished grandchildren: Diedra and Elizabeth Ford, John and Kenneth Allport, Alicia Bernier and Isabella and Willow Previtera; in laws: Fran and Helen Reardon, Joyce Reardon, Mark and Cindi Reardon and Pat and Barb Reardon. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and his avid hunting buddies: Neal, Jim, Burt, Dick, Brian, Bob, Fred and Rocky. David was predeceased by his step father: Leon Miller and by a sister in law: Gail Gage. The family offers its heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare's emergency room and intensive care unit for their comforting care. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Mattern and staff, the cardiologist specialists of Central New York and Albany Medical Center for their kindness and compassionate care during Dave's long illness. Memorial offerings may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Mohawk Reformed Church; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
