Obituary of Edward Grainger

ILION-FRANKFORT - Edward J. Grainger, age 91, formerly of 105 Ray St. N., Ilion, and 332 Third Ave., Frankfort, passed away Monday, September 15, 2008, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford. He was born on July 15, 1917, in Ilion, the son of Edward H. and Mary Elizabeth (Murphy) Grainger, and graduated from Ilion High School. On August 2, 1941, he was married to Florence Ludwig in Ilion. She died on June 21, 1994. Ed was employed in the service dept. at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, for over 35 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation and a former greeter. He was also a member of AARP and a former member of the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Dept. and Sts. Peter & Paul Church Choir in Frankfort. Ed enjoyed bowling and his family camp at Kyser Beach on Oneida Lake. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Edward W. and Janet Grainger, of Stephens City, VA, and Paul and Suzanne Grainger, of Ilion; four grandchildren, Michael and wife, Shauna, of Fayetteville, NY, Matthew and wife, Mari, of Ilion, John and fiancee, Brittney Posnick, of Syracuse, and Stephanie, of Stephens City, VA; eight great-grandchildren, Michaela, Daniel, Elisabeth, Kathryn, Lauren, Luke, Tristan and Jonah; his sister, Lucille Stevens, of New Hartford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four sisters, Margaret Scherer, Gertrude Sokolowski, Catherine Fullem and Estelle. Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services at 9:15 AM, Monday, September 22, 2008, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, and 10:00 AM at the Church of the Annunciation where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, Pastor, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort. Calling hours are Sunday, 5-7 PM, at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the 4th floor staff at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion, for their excellent care and compassion.
