Obituary of Edna Helmes

Ilion, N.Y. - Edna Helmes, 91, formerly of Prindle Apartments, 80 E. North St., Ilion, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at Folts Homes, Herkimer, where she recently resided. She was born on Oct. 24, 1916 in the town of Ohio, N.Y., the daughter of Walter and Hazel (Williams) Bussey and graduated from Poland High School. Edna was employed in reproductions-blue prints at Sperry Rand Univac in Ilion and Utica for over 25 years. She was a 50 year life member of the Rebeccas and a member of Schuyler Senior Citizens and Ilion Moose Lodge. Edna was an avid square dancer and enjoyed bowling. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Felix Krupa of Herkimer, granddaughters Linda Elliott and her husband Chris of 29 Palms, Calif., Deb Bongiorno of Mohawk; great-granddaughters Nicole Krupa; Bethany, Kelsie and Mara Bongiorno; her sister, Georgia Farber of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Harvey Bussey and two sisters, Marjorie Houghtaling and Edith Richer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at Applegate-Day and Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion with Rev. Patricia Lawrence, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Herkimer, officiating. Interment will be in Mount View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
