Herkimer: Arthella M. “Ma” Bennett-Holtz, 74, of North Washington Street, Herkimer, passed away on Friday afternoon, December 19, 2008 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. Mrs. Holtz was born on August 19, 1934 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Bernard and Pearl (McKenny) Thompson. She was educated in Herkimer schools. Her last employment was with the Pennysaver Newspaper in Canajoharie. Prior to that, she worked at Allegroe Shoe Corp. in Little Falls. Mrs. Holtz was of the Methodist faith. She was previously married to George Bennett. In 1995, she married Merrill Holtz in Ilion. Mrs. Holtz’s family was extremely important to her and she leaves behind by her six sons and their wives: William Bennett of Mohawk, Floyd Bennett of Herkimer, George Bennett & his wife Theresa and Arthur Bennett and friend, Julie of St. Johnsville, Larry Bennett and his wife Amber of Gloversville, Dale Bennett and his wife Patricia of Ilion; five daughters and their husbands: Darlene Bennett of Gloversville, Susan Bennett and John Grainer of Herkimer, Georgia Rando and Skip of Mohawk, Maryann Bennett and her fiancé John of Herkimer, and Kathy Bennett of Frankfort; 48 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren; her in-laws: Edward and Bonnie Holtz, Ruth McGraw, Tillie Thompson, and Helen Hartley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Arthella was predeceased by her son, Gary Bennett, six brothers, and two sisters. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (866-1011). Her funeral service will commence at the conclusion of calling hours at 6:00 pm at the funeral parlor conducted by the Reverend Janet Gleason.
