Obituary of Norma Hopson

Norma Jeanne Hopson, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday April 10, 2008 at Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY following an extended illness. Mrs. Hopson was born August 6, 1924, in Florala, Alabama, daughter of the late Clifford and Pearl (Hurlburt) Cook. Norma grew up in Warsaw, NY and graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1942. She was employed by the cooperative extension in Wyoming County until marrying Richard E. Hopson in 1944. The couple managed and then owned their own farm in Dolgeville until 1967. They also lived in the communities of Dryden, NY, Madrid, NY, and Perth, NY, before retiring in Madrid, NY. There she was very active in the community working as a Court Clerk, a volunteer for the Board of Elections, and a volunteer at the Madrid Library. She also spent many hours volunteering for AMI, the Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Northern, NY. She was a lifelong member of the Grange and a member of the Scotch Presbyterian Church in Chipman, NY. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn (Cook) LaDelfa in 2007. Mrs. Hopson is survived by her loving husband Richard E. Hopson, also of the Masonic Care Community and four children; Gary R. Hopson and his wife Linda of Herkimer, NY; Robert C. Hopson and his wife Nancy of Gainesville, VA; Deborah Kelly and her husband James of Varysburg, NY; and Mark E. Hopson and his wife Stephanie of Lewes, DE; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a sister; Janice (Cook) Tunningley of Escondido, CA; and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. In keeping with Norma?s wishes funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville, NY.
