Obituary of Raymond Hopson

Mr. Raymond E. ?Hoppy? Hopson Jr. 88 of 15 Stewart Street Dolgeville, died Thursday afternoon May 29, 2008 at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home in Ilion where he was a patient since April 28th 2008. He was born in Old Forge, New York on April 15, 1920 the son of Raymond E. and Frances (Nettleton) Hopson and attended schools in Old Forge and Dolgeville. He also attended the Buffalo Technical Institute for radio repair. His marriage to the former Marie Kopp took place on August 27, 1944 in the Dutch Reformed Church rectory in Scotia, New York. Mrs. Hopson predeceased him on March 12, 2004. ?Hoppy? as he was known was self employed operating Hopson TV Service in the village of Dolgeville for several years. He was well known as the fire alarm superintendent for the Village of Dolgeville for several decades. During the winter months he was employed by the Town of Manheim as a wingman on the large snow plows for the town. His personal interests were in camping with his wife and family in the Saranac Lake area for many years. He also accomplished building his own telescope. He is survived by a son and his wife Donald and Nancy Hopson and a daughter and her husband Carol and Edward Rzeszot both of Dolgeville, a Sister Dorothy Wells of Wisconsin, and seven Grandchildren 12 Great Grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday June 7, 2008 at 10 AM at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church on Helmer Avenue. Rev. Rebecca Laird will officiate. Burial will be in the Dolgeville Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorials may be sent to the Dolgeville Fire Department Fellowship Fund South Helmer Avenue Dolgeville, NY 13329 in his memory.
