Obituary of Donald Hymas

HERKIMER-ILION - Donald “Don” A. Hymas, age 62, of 511 E. German St. Herkimer, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at home. He was born on Aug. 11, 1946, in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of George and Bertha (Walden) Hymas and attended school in Staten Island. On March 14, 1992, he was married to Jane (Barrett) Weaver in Bedminster, N.J. At one time, Don was a member of the Merchant Marines. He was later a caretaker of a private estate in New Jersey. Most recently, Mr. Hymas was employed in the maintenance department at Herkimer Curtains and Fabrics, Herkimer. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. Don accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and then was baptized on June 22, 2008. He became a member of the Harvest Hills Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jane; two daughters, Sandra Allen and her husband Peter of Ilion, Connie Panko and her companion Bruce Onyon of Mohawk; his son, Jeff Panko and his wife Tamra of Richfield Springs; several grandchildren including Bradley, Billie Jo, Joshua, Crystalene, Madonna, Jedediah and Darren; two great-grandchildren, Jewelanna and Sonny Jr.; two step-daughters, Denise and Lisa; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Glenn Shoudy of New Jersey, Doreen and Seth Johnson of Middlefield, N.Y.; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Jane Hymas of Cooperstown; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother and father, George and Bertha Hymas. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Don’s memorial service on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at 4 p.m. at the Harvest Hills Baptist Church, 1027 E. German St., Herkimer, N.Y, with the Rev. Dale Lawrence, pastor, officiating. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Donald A. Hymas Memorial Fund. Envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion or during the memorial service at the church.
