Obituary of Ruth Keddell

ILION-Mrs. Ruth I. Keddell, 90, of West State St., Ilion passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 19, 1917 in Troy, NY daughter of the late Benjamin and Emma (Thiede) Short and graduated with the Ilion High School, "Class of 1935". She was united in marriage with Francis W. Keddell on January 13, 1940 in St. Francis Rectory, Herkimer. He passed away after 58 wonderful years of marriage on June 14, 1998. Ruth was last employed with Remington Arms, Ilion as an inspector. She was of the Catholic faith. At one time she was a member of the Catholic Daughters, was active with the Annunciation Church PTO, served as a Girl Scout leader, volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels, and also belonged to the Herkimer County Historical Society. Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. In her spare time she enjoyed researching genealogy and visiting the historical society. She is survived by nine children; Lorita Keddell of Johnstown, Sister Margaret "Peg" Keddell, CSJ of Albany, Jean Maneen of Ilion, Barbara Griffin of Ilion, Mary Patelos of Loudenville, James and Patricia Keddell of Ohio, Paul and June Keddell of Va., Peter and Deborah Keddell of North Carolina, and Kenneth and Francine Keddell of Little Falls; twenty two grandchildren, twenty eight (and counting) great grandchildren; two sisters in law: Rita Turner of Herkimer and Katherine Hadcock both of Herkimer; sister in law and brother in law: Robert and Ruth L. Keddell of Naples, Fl.; a sister in law and brother in law: Joseph and Betty Keddell of Oneonta; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; by a son Daniel in 1971, a brother: Jack Short; a sister: Gladys Fake; a son in law: Anthony "Tony" Maneen in 2003. The family will be present in the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort to receive relatives and friends on Sunday, April 20th, 2008 from 3-6 p.m. Father Anthony Barratt will conduct a prayer service at the funeral home on Sunday. Mrs. Keddell's funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Monday, April 21st, from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer service will take place and at 10am from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort where the Rev. Alfred Lamanna, pastor emeritus and the Rev. John Yanas will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
