Obituary of June Leon

ILION-Mrs. June M. Leon, 79, formerly of 126 E. North St., passed away on Wednesday morning, March 19, 2008 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford with the love and support of her family by her side. She was born on June 12, 1928 in Starkville, daughter of the late Frank and Lorena (Sullivan) McNinney. On December 9, 1950, she was united in marriage with Harold F. Leon, a loving and devoted union of over 52 years until his passing on January 27, 2003. She was last employed for over 20 years at Mohawk Valley General Hospital. For many years she distributed AVON products. She was of the Methodist faith and attended the Ilion United Methodist Church. June found her greatest happiness, her most profound joy, and her truest calling in her family. The relationships which she established with her loved ones were reflected in the deep pride she took in their lives and achievements. She was the true heart of her family and will be deeply missed. Mrs. Leon leaves her loving family; three sons: David Leon and wife Barbara Jean of Deerfield, Harold "Babe" Leon and wife Sandy of Frankfort, and Timothy "Leo" Leon and companion Sue Tracy of Ilion; her cherished grandchildren: Derek Thayne Leon, Janel Christine Leon, and Tera Rose Leon-Tracy; a great grandchild: Thayne Francis Leon; brothers and sisters in law: Charles Leon and wife Eleanor of Mohawk, Leo Leon of Little Falls, Richard Leon and wife Joan of Little Falls, Dayton Leon and wife Florence of Little Falls, Denny Leon and wife Gerta of Texas, Thomas Leon and wife Sally of Oklahoma, Gordon Leon and wife Francis of Herkimer, Terrance Leon and wife Shay of Georgia, Shirley Ashley and husband Fred of Little Falls, Patricia Tennant and husband Vaughn of Little Falls; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She had a brother: Orson McNinney and a sister: Cecelia Gahan that preceded her in death. Visitation at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion will be held on Friday, March 21, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. Her funeral will commence at 10 am on Saturday, March 22nd from the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Wollaber, pastor of the Ilion United Methodist Church officiating. Spring burial will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer alongside her beloved husband.
