Obituary of Andrew Lesko

MOHAWK-Mr. Andrew Lesko, 85, formerly of Mohawk passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, June 5, 2008 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. He was born on October 8, 1922 in Loydell, Pa., son of the late Michael and Julia (Matai) Lesko and educated in Mohawk schools. A veteran of World War II he served with the United States Army and enlisted on January 5, 1943 and was honorably discharged on April 2, 1946 holding the rank of Private, First Class. He was the recipient of the EAME Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and also the proud recipient of the Purple Heart. He graduated from Syracuse University. He was last employed with Pirelli Cable Company, Elkton, Maryland and was of the Greek Orthodox Faith. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include two nephews: Joseph Lesko of Herkimer and Aaron Lesko and wife Linda of Allentown, Pa.; great nephews and nieces: Kevin Lesko, Christine Tyson and husband Tim and Chad Lesko. He was predeceased by a sister: Mary Lesko and by three brothers: Michael Lesko, John Lesko and Joseph Lesko. Mr. Lesko's funeral will commence at 10 am on Saturday, June 7, 2008 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, with the Very Reverend Ivan Semko, officiating. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 9:30 am -10 am, prior to the service. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest. Full military honors will be offered by the U.S. Army.
