Obituary of William Lucas

William R. Lucas, 81, a long time St. Johnsville resident, and most recently residing at Galinsky Apartments, Herkimer, passed away on Monday February 4, 2008 at St. Luke?s Hospital, New Hartford, NY. He was born March 23, 1926 in St. Johnsville the son of the late Robert & Harriet (Clemons) Lucas and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. His marriage to Louise A. Wolinski took place in 1946 in St. Johnsville. The couple shared a blessed union of 46 years until the passing of Louise on December 11, 1992. For 37 years, until his retirement in 1988, William was employed at Beech-Nut in Canajohaire. Mr. Lucas was a member of the St. Johnsville American Legion and the Beech-Nut 25 year Club. Among his pastimes, William was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoying the time spent watching the races. In his leisure he found joy and comfort in reading. Survivors include a son, Brian Lucas of Little Falls, a daughter, Tammy Roorda and husband Roy of Herkimer, 9 grandchildren, Michael Lucas, Chad, Jayme, Dana Lucas, Caitlin, Trevor, Adam Roorda, and Eric Schuyler and Anastasia Smith, 2 great grandchildren, a beloved sister, Barbara Bleistein of Clifton Springs, NY, and several nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son Daniel Lucas in 1989, a daughter, Colleen Smith in 2003 and a brother, Andrew Lucas. In keeping with William?s wishes there are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at St. Johnsville Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are by the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY.
