Obituary of Annabelle Marquissee

HERKIMER-AnnaBelle Marquissee, 94, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, Oct. 2, 2008 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. AnnaBelle was born May 4, 1914 in Mohawk the beloved daughter of the late William and Jessie Wood Marquissee. After graduating from Herkimer High School, she worked at Montgomery Ward. She enjoyed a long 32-year career with Sperry-Univac-Unisys. AnnaBelle was an active member of the Herkimer United Methodist Church and served as a devoted volunteer to residents of Folts Homes, Herkimer. She was an officer of the Fort Dayton Grange and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1938. She especially enjoyed her family and many friends. AnnaBelle will be fondly remembered for her warmth, caring, and compassion toward others and over the years volunteered her time as a Red Cross nurses aide and in the thrift shop. AnnaBelle was predeceased by brothers: Lester, William V., Howard W. and Dr. Gordon Marquissee and by a sister: Josephine Maxwell; a sister in law: Janet Smith Marquissee and by a nephew: Mark D. Marquissee. Survivors include a sister in law: Selma Marquissee of New Windsor, NY; a niece: Barbara Marquissee Webb and husband William and family of CT; a nephew: Gordon W. Marquisse and wife Barbara and family of Mohawk, Ilion and Florida; Amy Marquissee and family of Mohawk and Herkimer; cousins: Edward and Mary Wood of Florida, Allen Wood of Florida, Carolyn Wood Roberts of Whitesboro, and Marion Wood Hatt of Utica. The funeral service in celebration of AnnaBelle’s life will commence at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday (today), October 4, 2008 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, (Herkimer) with the Rev. Janet Gleason, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, officiating. Burial will be held privately in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Relatives and friends are invited and may pay their respects from 11am -12 pm, prior to the service at the funeral home. She will be deeply missed by all. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer or to a charity of your choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
