Obituary of Bertice Owens

JORDANVILLE-Mrs. Bertice C. Owens, 86, of Jordanville, currently of Folts Homes, Herkimer passed away on Wednesday morning, February 6, 2008 at the nursing home. She was born on October 13, 1921 in New Haven, NY daughter of the late Elmer and Estella (Brown) Carkey and educated in Mexico, NY schools. Her marriage to William R. Owens took place on July 4, 1941. He passed away on April 11, 1980. She was last employed as a sewing machine operator with Duofold, Mohawk. Bertice was a member of the Jordanville Federated Church of Christ. She was a member of Ladies Aid of Jordanville and volunteered at the Jordanville library. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, playing cards. She was a wonderful cook and also enjoyed baking. Survivors include her children: Ronald W. Owens of Jordanville, Edwin R. Owens and wife Patricia of Mohawk, Lawrence A. Owens and wife Martha of Ilion, and Deborah D. Rogers and husband Paul of Jordanville; her grandchildren: Kimberly Allen and husband Scott of Mohawk, Shawn Owens and wife Catherine of Mohawk; Michael Rogers and wife Natalia of Richfield Springs, and Geoff Rogers of Fort Plain; great grandchildren: Amanda, Brittany, Shawn and Samantha Owens, Nicholas, Benjamin Allen and Michael Holtz, Alexandria, Kalyna, and John Rogers; several nieces and nephews; in laws: Birdella Sweeney and Katherine Owens. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, a sister: Beatrice Cobb, a brother: George Carkey and his wife Lois and by a nephew Ray Carkey. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home, Main Street, Mohawk on Saturday, February 9, 2008 from 9-11 a.m. Mrs. Owens funeral will commence at 11 am on Saturday morning, following the conclusion of calling hours at the funeral home with the Rev. Scott Hocking, pastor of the Jordanville Federated Church of Christ, officiating. Procession will follow to Crown Hill Memorial Park, Utica where she will be laid to rest. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Jordanville Federated Church of Christ or to the Jordanville Library; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
