Obituary of Norma Phalen

MILLERS MILLS-ILION - Norma D. (MacKenzie) Phalen, 78, formerly of 253 Jones Road, Ilion, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare, New Hartford. She was born on June 7, 1929, in Ilion, the daughter of Peter and Sarah (MacLeod) MacKenzie, Norma graduated from West Winfield Central High School and Cortland State Teacher?s College. On June 13, 1952, she was married to William A. Phalen in Elkton, Md. He died on Dec. 12, 2000. Norma was employed as a school teacher at Attleboro, Mass., and Burlington, Mass., schools for 25 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Millers Mills Community Baptist Church and its Ladies Aide. She was also a former secretary of the Millers Mills Grange #581. Survivors include three sons, Patrick Phalen of Millers Mills, Terence Phalen and his wife Colleen of East Taunton, Mass., Robert Tigges and his wife Karen of Hooksett, N.H.; her daughter-in-law, Marsha Phalen of West Winfield; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Michael, Katlynn, Rebecca, Brandon, Robert Jr., and Tammy; her sister-in-law, Hazel; her niece, Heather, and two nephews, Scott and Edward. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Peter and Sarah ?Sadie? MacKenzie, her son, Michael Phalen, her brother, Edward MacKenzie, and her sister, Margaret ?Peggy? MacKenzie. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion with Rev. Scott Hocking officiating. Spring interment will be in Millers Mills Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Home. Envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
