Obituary of Florence Plunkett

ILION - Florence M. Plunkett, age 81, of 75 Fourth St., Ilion, passed away on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, after a courageous battle with cancer. Florence was born on April 11, 1927, in Meriden, Conn., the daughter of Frank and Josephine Cashman. She moved to Ilion with her family as a young girl and graduated from Ilion High School in 1944. On April 28, 1962, she was married to Joseph Plunkett at the Annunciation Church, Ilion. At one time she worked at LaTella’s Bakery in Frankfort and Sperry-Rand Univac in Ilion. Florence was a long-time and loyal parishioner of Annunciation Church in Ilion. She enjoyed playing Bingo. Nothing made her happier that to cook for and be surrounded by her family. Florence took pride in her role as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Florence is survived by her husband, Joseph; her daughter, Susan of Hingham, MA; her sons, Steve of Ilion and Gary Tutty and his wife, Pamela of Ilion; her grandchildren, Sean Tutty and his wife Sonya of Ilion, Christopher Tutty and his wife Mary of Orange, CA, Maura Tutty of Quincy, MA, Rileigh Plunkett of Ilion; her great-grandchildren, Keeley, Devin, Connor and Nolan Tutty; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Irene Pulley of Ilion, Catherine and George Snider of Frankfort, Elizabeth and Robert Luke of Ilion; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Cashman of Meriden, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sister-in-law, Raymond and Beverly Cashman, John and Emily Cashman, and her brothers-in-law, Dominick Accattato and Earl Polley. Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, and 10 a.m. at the Annunciation Church, Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, pastor. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours are Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Florence’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Dr. Butala’s office and the 6th Floor Oncology Unit at St. Luke’s, Father Anthony Barratt, Father Mark Cunningham and Sister Maureen for their care, concern and compassion. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Annunciation Church Memorial Fund.
