Obituary of Eleanor Porter

ILION-Mrs. Eleanor M. (Connick) Porter, 94, formerly of Second Street, a five year resident of Valley Health Services, Herkimer, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Tuesday, December 2, 2008. At the time of her passing, which occurred at the nursing home, she had the love and support of her family at her bedside. She was born on March 28, 1914 in Rome, daughter of the late James and Philomena (Baulig) Connick and graduated high school in Rome. She furthered her education attending the Syracuse University School of Nursing. On December 27, 1941, she joined in marriage with Donald C. Porter in Rome. Mr. Porter passed away on December 7, 1991 after enjoying a union of 50 years. Eleanor was passionate about her career in nursing and was employed as a Public Health Nurse in Syracuse for many years. She was a communicant of Annunciation Church, Ilion. In Eleanor's spare time she enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting and needle point. Above all else she loved spending time with her loving family and has left them with many cherished memories. She was also a founding member of the Ilion Trading Post. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by all those who knew her. Survivors include her children: Ann Musella and husband Donald, Sr., of Mohawk; Michael Porter, Sr., and wife Darby of Mohawk; three cherished grandchildren: Donald Musella Jr., of Mohawk, Michael Porter, Jr. of Rhode Island, and Patrick Porter of Orlando, Florida; her adored great grandchildren: Nate, Jordyn, Jenna and Ethan Musella and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Michelle Musella who always made Eleanor look beautiful and Kathy Porter. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. The family wishes to acknowledge the truly caring staff of Valley Health Services for their kindness and compassion and for always going above and beyond to make Eleanor and her family feel comfortable. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West Street, Ilion on Friday, December 5, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. Eleanor's funeral will commence at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 2:00 p.m. from the Church of the Annunciation, West Street, Ilion where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor assisted by Deacon James Bower. Funeral procession will follow to North Columbia Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband Donald.
