Obituary of Edith Seaman

ILION-Edith M. Seaman, 88, formerly of West Main Street, Mohawk and most recently of Prindle Apartments, Ilion passed away peacefully on Friday morning, May 16th, 2008 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. At the time of her passing she was surrounded with the support of her family at her side. She was born on January 5, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan daughter of the late Lachlan and Jessie (Oltrum) McMillan and educated in West Winfield schools. Edith was last employed with Basloe Library in Herkimer as a library aid for eight years and was formerly employed by General Electric, Utica, retiring in 1971. A loving and wonderful mother and caring grandmother and great grandmother, Edith will be sadly missed by all who knew her. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading. At one time she was an avid shuffleboard player winning tournaments with her partner and companion Henry Pulaski. She leaves five daughters and three sons in law: Barbara and Michael Hodom of Delmar, Beverly Seaman of South Glenns Falls, Elizabeth Garlock of Indiana, Bernice "Bunny" Seymour and husband Thomas of Ilion and Benita and David Holley of Lake Placid; a son and daughter in law: Lawrence "Larry" Seaman and wife Veronica of Ilion; ten cherished grandchildren, seven adored great grandchildren and many close and dear friends. She is also survived by her beloved feline companion, Callie. Edith was preceded in death by a brother: Donald McMillan and by her beloved companion Henry Pulaski who passed away on January 6, 1997. On Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 the family will be present at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion to receive relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. Following the visiting hours (7 p.m.) on Wednesday her funeral will commence in the funeral home. Interment will take place privately in West Winfield Cemetery. For those wishing to do so, kindly consider a donation in Edith's memory to the American Cancer Society; envelopes are available at the funeral parlor. The family would like to acknowledge the caring staff of the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home 4th floor and Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare's 6th floor for the tender love and care offered. The family is being served by Donald Applegate and Daniel Enea, funeral directors.
