Obituary of Emil Sokol

DOLGEVILLE-Mr. Emil Sokol, 93, of State Route 167, (town of Manheim) passed away on Monday evening, November 17, 2008 peacefully in the comfort of his home. He was born on January 16, 1915 in Monessen, Pa., son of the late Andrew and Anna (Mamrosh) Sokol and educated in Salisbury and Dolgeville schools. He lived the majority of his life in the Dolgeville/Salisbury/Little Falls area. On October 11, 1941, he was united in marriage with Sophia J. Popka in First Presbyterian Church, Little Falls with Rev. Thompson officiating. The couple has enjoyed a blessed union of 67 years. Mr. Sokol was last employed with Dolgeville Producers Coop and was formerly employed with John Subik Real Estate in Johnstown. He also owned and operated his own farm for many years until retiring in 1971. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Little Falls and also held memberships with the Little Falls Moose Lodge and Sprite Club. Mr. Sokol was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Survivors include his wife Sophia; his son: Emil Sokol, Jr., and wife Donna of Longmont, Colorado; two daughters: Emily J. Sokol and Patricia A. Sokol both of Little Falls; a grandson: Jeffrey A. Sokol of Syracuse; in laws: Anna Woytowich of Richfield Springs, Rose Sokol of Thatcher, Arizona, Helen Witkowski of Florida and John Popka and wife Patricia of Herkimer, many nieces and nephews including: John A. Sokol and wife Phyllis and James Sokol. Also surviving are many grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers: John and William Sokol. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Friday, November 21, 2008 10 am-12 noon. The funeral will commence at 12noon on Friday from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Gertrude "Trudy" Ortlieb, pastor of the Inghams Mills Baptist Church, officiating. Procession will follow to Rural Park Cemetery, Ingham Mills where he will be laid to rest.
