Obituary of Samuel P Talaba

LITTLE FALLS-Mr. Samuel P. Talaba, beloved husband of Irma (Heath) Talaba passed away on Thursday evening, September 4, 2008 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. Sam was born on October 29, 1921 in Little Falls the son of the late Stefan and Suzanna (Sadlon) Talaba. He was educated in local schools and while in High School he was a skilled gymnast and excelled in football and basketball. In 1942, Samuel enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and proudly served his country in World War II until his discharge in 1946. Sam was employed for 38 years by Burrows Paper Corp., retiring in 1984. Sam had many hobbies and interests including hunting, fishing, gardening, bowling and was an avid golfer. Some of his most enjoyable times were spent golfing with his son Sam, Jr. He also enjoyed many wonderful times with his grandchildren and great granddaughter, whom he dearly loved. His family meant the world to him and he meant the world to them. He belonged to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls American Legion, Little Falls VFW and several bowling leagues over the years. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years Irma, his devoted son: Sam, Jr. and wife Karen of Little Falls; his loving daughter, Claudia Wieliczka and husband Robert of Ilion; his cherished grandchildren: Lisa Simpkins and Robert Wieliczka Jr., and his adored great granddaughter: Samantha "Sami" Simpkins; one sister: Elizabeth Ashe of Clinton; in laws: Robert Heath and wife Patty; a sister in law: Theresa Heath and several nieces and nephews, especially Dorothy Helmer whose kindness will never be forgotten. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Anna, Catherine, Susan, Christina and Mildred and by an infant brother Steven. The Enea Family Funeral Home of Little Falls is handling cremation arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of floral offerings, contributions can be made in Sam's name to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the American Heart Association. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home or at the church service. Sam was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.
