Obituary of Bernard Taverni

LITTLE FALLS-Mr. Bernard A. Taverni "Mims", 88, formerly of Highland Ave., entered into eternal rest early Tuesday morning, July 29, 2008 in Folts Homes, Herkimer where he had been a resident since 2004. He was born on October 23, 1919 in Little Falls son of the late Antonio and Itala (Cinquanta) Taverni and graduated from Little Falls High School, Class of 1938. On January 16, 1944 he was joined in marriage with Angela M. Zambri at St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls a blessed union of 64 years.On February 5, 1942 he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific Arena. He was honorably discharged on October 12, 1945. His last professional employment was with MetLife Insurance in Herkimer and was a well known and respected agent for 30 years. Following his military career he was employed with Snyder Manufacturing and also owned the Cigar Store on Flint Avenue in Little Falls in his younger years. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. Mims was a member of the DeCarlo Staffo Post of Little Falls and was past Commander. He also belonged to the Little Falls Recreation Commission and Municipal Golf Course Commission. In his spare time Mims enjoyed golfing, gardening and watching the New York Yankees. His greatest blessing was his family and they always came first. His reputation was a reflection of his inherent honesty, integrity and loyalty and will be sadly missed and never forgotten. Survivors include his beloved wife Angela of Little Falls; a son: Frederick Taverni and wife Donna of Hacketstown, NJ; his daughter: Patricia Coon of Brockport; his cherished grandchildren: Brian and Sara Coon, Kevin Coon, Jeanelle Taverni and Brandon Taverni; his adored great grandchildren: Jacob, Joseph and Anna Coon; many nieces and nephews including Robert DePiazza and Jeanette McCafferty and Edward DePiazza who were very special to Mims; a sister- in- law: Mary Zambri of Little Falls. He was predeceased by two brothers: Guido Taverni and Ugo Taverni and by two sisters: Elisa Fantera and Bernice Valent. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home (Little Falls) on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. Mr. Taverni’s funeral will commence on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 10:15 am from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer service will be held and at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, Little Falls with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor officiating. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest.
