Obituary of Gurden Wood

ILION - Gurden ?Woody? Wood, 81, of Prindle Apartments, formerly of 66 Barringer Road, Ilion, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2008, with his children by his side at Albany Medical Center. He was born on May 16, 1926, in Herkimer, the son of Louis and Erma (Hulin) Wood and graduated from Herkimer High School in 1944. He was married to Clara Day on July 21, 1967 in Mohawk. She died on March 11, 2002. Woody was a sales clerk at Mungers, Howlands and later Steinbecks in Herkimer and Riverside Mall, Utica, for 40 years, retiring in 1989. He was the organist at the Mohawk United Methodist Church for 25 years and later at the Masonic Home. He also played the organ at the World?s Fair in Chicago. Woody loved going to the casino and playing cards. He also loved his pets over the years. His lively personality will be missed by many including his friends at Prindle Apartments in Ilion. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Bubel and her husband Frank of Harpers Ferry, W.V.; his son, Eric Wood and his wife Zhiel and daughter Sarah of Ilion; his beloved granddaughter, Dayna ?Dolly? Wood of Herkimer. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a celebration of Woody?s life which will include an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Prindle Apartments Community Room, 80 E. North St., Ilion. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Prindle Apartments in Woody?s name. Donation envelopes will be available at the celebration of life on Tuesday and at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home.
