Obituary of William Albin

William J. "Bill" (Buck) Albin, age 86, of Silver St., Town of Litchfield, a lifelong Valley resident passed away Tuesday evening, May 29, 2007, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Bill was born October 30, 1920 in Ilion, son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Schletterer) Albin. He was a graduate of West Winfield High School. Bill was a proud veteran, serving with the United States Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater of War. As a Corporal, he participated in action at Guadalcanal, B.S.I., and Cape Gloucester, New Britain. He was united in marriage to Betty J. (Beal) Goodheart on August 20, 1951 in New York City, and shared a blessed union of 55 years. Bill was an Insurance Salesman with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Herkimer for over 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was of the Roman Catholic faith, a member of the Herkimer County Detachment Marine Corps League, a rabid Yankees fan and sports enthusiast. Bill loved puttering around his yard. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty; four children, Michael B. Albin and his wife, Denise of the Town of Litchfield, William Albin and his wife, Pat of Pompey, Robert J. Albin and his wife, Blanch (Bunny) of Carrolton, GA, and Leisa A. Albin of the Town of Litchfield; 12 cherished grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Nora Smith of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Kim Albin; and his brother, Joseph Albin. Mr. Albin's funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007, commencing at 11 a.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion and 12 noon at St. Joseph's Church, Route 20, West Winfield, where Father Terence Healy, Pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Full Military Honors by the USMC will be held following Mass at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visitation Saturday, June 2nd, from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion, prior to the funeral service. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions in Bill's name to the Cedarville Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
