Obituary of Romeo Battisti

St. Johnsville ? Romeo, John Battisti, 85 of 10 John St., St. Johnsville passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, with his loving family by his side. Romeo was a lifelong resident of St. Johnsville, born there on September 5, 1921. He was a graduate of St. Johnsville Central School District and St. Lawrence University. Mr. Battisti was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, enlisting on April 5, 1943 and was honorably discharged on October 21, 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. While serving his country, Romeo served as a B-17 Bombardier with the 8th Air Force in Europe, where he survived having his Bomber forced down behind German lines. Following his service to his country, Romeo was hired as a High School Social Studies teacher at his Alma Mater where he also coached the varsity basketball and baseball teams. He was hired as the High School vice principal, principal and eventually Superintendent of Schools. After retiring in 1976, Romeo served as interim superintendent for several school districts throughout the area for the next ten years. Like many men and women of his generation, he refused to truly ?retire? and held jobs with the St. Johnsville Post Office as well at the pro shop at Nick Stoner Golf Course through 2006. He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his wife of 57 years, Molly, a son, Rick Battisti of St. Johnsville, daughters, Lorraine O?Connor and husband Wayne of Fayetteville, Tina Nabinger and husband Steve of Manilus, & Christa Giarrizzo and husband Salvatore of Johnstown, a sister, Lydia Roberson of Wilmington, Delaware, 6 granddaughters, Jessica & Lauren O?Connor, Sabrina & Juliet Nabinger & Grace & Anna Giarrizzo, and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday April 13, 2007 at 11:00 am from St. Patrick?s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery with full military honors. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Thursday April 12, 2007 from 4-7 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to St. Johnsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to St. Patrick?s Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
