Obituary of Florence Borden

MOHAWK - Florence R. Borden, 85, of 3754 State Route 168, Mohawk, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born on Nov. 18, 1922, in West Turin, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Dora (Scouten) Mullin. Florence attended Schuyler schools and graduated from Ilion High School and Faxton Hospital School of Nursing. On Nov. 4, 1944, she was married to Lyle Borden in Ilion. In her early years she was an R.N. at Ilion Hospital. Florence later was employed as an R.N. at Herkimer Hospital for 23 years, becoming a second floor head nurse where she was affectionately known as ?Bordie.? She was a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Lyle; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and James Harter, Virginia and William Jaquish, all of Mohawk; her son, Lyle A. II of Mohawk and his companion Jean Coones of Richfield Springs; three grandchildren, James Harter II and wife Rachel, S/Sgt. David Harter and wife Lysa, L. Peter Rovazzi III; two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Dylan Harter; her sister, Elizabeth Farnell of Mohawk; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty Borden of Clinton; four nieces, one nephew and several cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Addie Oaksford in 1994. Funeral services will be he held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Brian Engel, pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, town of Kirkland Visitation will be Friday from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society or MOVAC. Special envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
