Obituary of Kenneth Boyer

Kenneth Arlin Boyer, 76, passed away on Friday November 2, 2007 at the Folts Home, Herkimer, NY, following a terminal illness. Kenneth was born April 27, 1931, to Raymond and Lucy (Crossman) Boyer in Stratford. Two brothers, Francis and Herbert pre-deceased him. Surviving are a nephew, Francis Boyer, Jr., and a niece Darlene Scherneck both of Dolgeville, friends, Douglas and Pamela Vedder their children and family friends, were Ken?s family for several years as he lived with them flowing the death of his brother, Herbert in 1999 until 2005. Rome DDSO?s Mohawk Street resident was Ken?s home until recent weeks. Ken was a mentally handicapped gentleman that was raised at home with his parents. Having no formal education, Ken learned from his family enjoying farm animals, pets, and family chores. Neighbors, family and friends were very special to Ken. His interests included old Model T cars, western movies, and country western music. Ken?s neighbors, Dave and Gloria Hazzard often played for him the Wabash Cannonball, Old Shep, and Bobby McGee. Jim and Toni Swartz invited Ken and his brother for many years to Thanksgiving dinner. In recent years, Ken was introduced to the Rome DDSO?s Family Care program allowing the Vedder?s to care for Ken in their home and Herkimer ARC providing day time activities. Ken flourished and became fast friends with everyone that came into his life. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday November 7, 2007 at 11:00 am at Stratford Cemetery with Reverend Rodney Congdon, officiating. Family and friends are invited to the Vedder?s home following the services for refreshments and to share memories. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY.
