Obituary of Gordon Conley

ILION-Mr. Gordon J. Conley, of 456 Otsego St., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, Nov. 8, 2007 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion where he had been a resident since Jan. 25, 2007. He was 90. He was born on June 14, 1917 in Mohawk, son of the late John and Alice (Tutty) Conley and educated in the Mohawk Central School system. He was a graduate of Ilion High School and also Mohawk Valley Community College. On May 25, 1939, Gordon was united in marriage with the former Helen Bowman in Ilion who predeceased him. His last professional employment was with Victory Markets where he was involved in sales/management for 15 years. At one time he was employed by the former Sunshine Biscuits Company as a salesman and also by Putnam Dairy. Gordon remained active in the community and was a member of the Ilion Knights of Columbus, its 4 th degree assembly and served on the Knights Color Guard. He was of the Catholic faith. In his spare time he enjoyed taking road trips. Survivors include his beloved daughter: Barbara Montana and husband Robert of Boonville; four grandchildren: Laura Kirk and husband Tom, Barbara Moran, William Moran and James Moran; four great grandchildren: Lincoln Franchell, William Franchell, Sabrina Moran and Zachary Moran. The family will be present in the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion to receive relatives and friends on Sunday, Nov. 11th, 2007 from 5-7 p.m. Mr. Conley's funeral will commence at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, officiating. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest in the family plot. Please omit floral offerings. The family offers their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion for their kindness and compassion and also to Dr. Frank Talarico for his professionalism. The Ilion K of C will conduct their service at the funeral home at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.
