Obituary of Stella Dekanek

Stella H. Dekanek, 91 of Casey Road, Mohawk, (Town of German Flatts) passed away on Wednesday May 2, 2007 at St. Luke?s Hospital, New Hartford, NY. She was born September 12, 1915 in Forest City, PA., the daughter of the late Bronislaw & Helen (Orlowski) Kosmoski. Stella was educated in Cedarville schools. Her marriage to John Kroll took place on October 7, 1933. Mr. Kroll passed away on May 21, 1938. She later married Samuel Dekanek on July 3, 1948 in Richfield Springs. Stella was last employed at the former Univac in Ilion, NY. Mrs. Dekanek was of the catholic faith. Stella was a care given person by nature. She loved to tend to her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered by her family and friends as a strong independent and loving woman ? a ?Mother? to many. She also showed a loving compassion towards animals. Survivors include her husband 57 years, Samuel, two sons, Joseph J. Kroll of Mohawk, and Charles G. Dekanek of Ilion; two daughters, Johanna Stowell and husband Richard of Mohawk, and Helen Potter and husband Leigh of Washington state, one sister, Isabell Stephoneff and husband George of Utica, sister-in-law, Louise Kosmoski of West Winfield, eight grandchildren, Terry Springsteen, Shelly Purtell, Donald Stowell, Cory Dekanek, Emily Dekanek, John (Jack) Kroll, Nikki Day & Jennifer Konopanek, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews & cousins. She was pre-deceased by five brothers, Peter, Frank, Jerry, Bennie, & Edwin Kroll, three sisters, Frances Olinski, Helen Wellenstein & Mary Wood, and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Kroll. Funeral services will be held on Monday May 7, 2007 at 11:00 am from the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, NY, with Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director of Blessed Sacrament. Burial will be in Dennison Corners Cemetery, Town of German Flatts. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday May 6, 2007 from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to either Blessed Sacrament Church, Association for the Blind of Utica, or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
