Obituary of Louis DiGustini

ROME-Louis Anthony ?Cheech? DiGustini (Gostini) 82, a recent resident of Folts Homes, Herkimer, a lifelong Rome resident, passed away on Saturday morning, April 28, 2007 in St. Elizabeth?s Medical Center, Utica with his family at his side. He was born on March 7, 1925 in Rome, son of the late Augustine DiGuistini (Gostini) and Madeline (Scalapio) DeGustini. Louis graduated from Rome High School. A faithful servant to his country, he proudly served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was extremely deserving of the EAME Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He enlisted on March 23, 1943 and as a testimonial of his honest and faithful service to his country was given an honorable discharge on April 26, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was last employed at Griffiss Airforce Base, Rome. Louis was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Rome and was very devoted to the Catholic Faith. He enjoyed touring Catholic shrines and always put religion first in his life. He will be missed by his loving family. He leaves four sisters: Theresa Catalano of California, Michaelina Summa of Rome, Carrie Bonanza of Utica and Mary Lounello and husband Bill of Rome; a brother in law: Anthony Lombino, Sr., of Rome; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews including Miranda and Mark Petronella who were very close to Louis. He was predeceased by two sisters: Caroline Delpico and Helen Lombino. In keeping with Mr. DiGustini?s wishes, services will be private. The family will gather privately to say goodbye and have chose that funeral arrangements be handled by the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Frankfort and Ilion, 894-8000, Daniel J. Enea, funeral director. He will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Rome, NY. Memorial offerings can be sent to a charity of your choice.
