Obituary of Norman Douglas

ILION-Norman L. Douglas, 62, of 99 Sixth Ave., Ilion, formerly of Rochester, passed away after a long illness on Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2007 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion with his beloved Vicki by his side. He was born on March 15, 1945, the son of the late Leonard R. and Gladys I. (Bolton) Douglas and graduated from Mohawk High School. He attended Utica School of Commerce, Utica and was last employed as a caretaker with the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester. Mr. Douglas loved music and collecting records. He had an extensive music collection containing over 12,000 records and also had a great love for animals. Survivors include his beloved Vicki; a sister: Linda Boecke of Herkimer; a niece: Sharleen Long and husband Michael of Mohawk and their children: Gabrielle, Alexandria and Michael Long; a nephew: Dana Gordon and wife Christy of North Carolina and their children: Valarie, Hailee and Hannah Gordon; a nephew: Andrew Gordon of Ilion and his children Michael and Makayla; and a good friend Paul LaBarbera of Rochester. Norman was predeceased by his brother in law: Charles H. Boecke in 2007. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd. , between Ilion and Frankfort, (894-8000) on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 from 10-11 am and are also invited to attend the funeral service that will commence at the conclusion of the calling hour in the funeral home (11 am). Pastor Don King of Dennison Corners Church, Mohawk, will officiate. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion where he will be laid to rest. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire doctors, nurses and staff at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion, for their kindness and compassion.
