Obituary of William Gutowski

William J. ?Bill? Gutowski, 80, of 15 Rockefeller Dr., St. Johnsville, passed away on Saturday October 27, 2007 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born June 24, 1927 in Amsterdam the son of the late Wladyslaw & Wladyslawa (Wojtowicz) Gutowski and was educated in Wilbur Lynch High School in Amsterdam, Class of 1945. His marriage to Leonora Cacciotti took place on October 25, 1953 at St. Patrick Church in St. Johnsville. Mr. Gutowski was a World War II Army veteran, enlisting on December 14, 1945 and was honorably discharged on May 28, 1947 with the rank of Corporal. Bill was last employed at Life Savers as a Supervisor, retiring in 1989. Bill was a member of St. Patrick?s Church, and was a member of the Parish council. He was also a member of the Little Falls Elks Lodge and the American Legion. Bill taught Polka lessons for many years, traveling on weekends through out the community. He enjoyed and treasured all the many friendships he made with everyone he met. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Leonora, two sons, Paul Gutowski and wife Mary of St. Johnsville, and David Gutowski and wife Diane of Little Falls, his grandchildren, Eric & Kristin Gutowski, a step-granddaughter, Alicia Downs and husband Matt, a step- great granddaughter, Natalia Downs, two brothers, William ?Babe? Gutowski and wife Jean of Amsterdam, and Edward Gutowski and wife Phyllis of Amsterdam and many nieces, nephews & cousins. He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Alexander, Casmir ands Henry Gutowski and a sister, Josephine Peters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 31, 2007 at 9:15 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville and at 10:00 am from St. Patrick?s Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Tuesday October 30, 2007 from 5-8 pm. Members of the Little Falls Elks Lodge are asked to meet Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm for services. All memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick?s Church, St. Jude?s Children Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
