Obituary of Joseph Haynes

MOHAWK - Joseph T. Haynes, age 75, of 1674 State Route 28, Mohawk, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at home. He was born on Aug. 6, 1931 in Fort Ann, N.Y. the son of Beldon and Alberta (Wills) Haynes and attended Hudson Falls schools. In 1962, Joe was married to Theresa Etu. She died on July 13, 2003. Mr. Haynes was employed as a tool and die maker at General Electric Company, Hudson Falls, N.Y. for over 20 years. In 1972, Joe and Theresa moved to Mohawk to fulfill his lifelong dream of owning and operating a Harley Davidson dealership namely, Mohawk Harley Davidson, from 1972-1982. Joe and Theresa later founded, owned and operated Haynes Tool and Die Company, Mohawk from 1982-1998 when he retired. Joe was an avid deer hunter and trout fisherman. He enjoyed tying his own flies for trout fishing. Joe especially loved Speculator Wells, N.Y. and the rest of the Adirondacks. Joe also loved to take fishing trips to Maine where he and Theresa took their children many times. Later he made several trips with his sons, grandsons and some very special friends. Joe loved Rainbow Lake and ?his true love? Henderson Pond. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Marie Joiner with whom he resided in Mohawk, Susan and George Staring of Mohawk; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark Haynes of Florida, Lee ?Joe? and Mary Haynes of Ilion; six grandchildren, Theresa Vogt and Molly Staring, Jason Haynes and his fiancee Christine, Benjamin and Matthew Haynes, Allan Palmer; his great-grandson, Joseph Thomas Haynes; his sister, Louise Sellingham of Queensbury, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandson Joseph ?Joe Tom? Haynes in 2001; his brother, Tommy Haynes; daughter-in-law, Caren Haynes; and his parents. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion with Pastor Jack Cogar officiating. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 29, 2007 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedarville Ambulance Fund.
