Obituary of Ruth Helmer

Mrs. Ruth Kibbe Helmer 88, formerly of 7 Brayton Court Dolgeville, and most recently of the Van Allen Nursing Home, died Wednesday August 1, 2007 in the nursing home, where she had been since June 29th. Ruth was also a resident of the Mohawk Homestead for a year, prior to going to the nursing home. She was born in Stratford on October 28, 1918 the daughter of Earl and Maude (Edick) Kibbe and was a graduate of Stratford School, class of 1935. She furthered her education by graduating from the Utica School of Commerce in 1963. Her marriage to Robert B. Helmer took place on December 12, 1942 in the Salisbury Center Methodist Parsonage, with Rev. Merle Brown; then pastor officiating. Mr. Helmer predeceased her on January 16, 1990. Ruth was employed by the former Norstar Bank of Dolgeville for 22 years, retiring from there several years ago. She was a faithful member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, serving on its Administrative Board and a member of the United Methodist Women. Other memberships included the Little Falls Hospital Guild, the Dolgeville and Salisbury Historical Society, the Oppenheim Senior Citizens, the Stratford Senior Citizens, the Little Falls AARP, the Christian Women of Little Falls, and a member of the Auskerada-Maquaes-Rock City Chapter #204 Order of Easter Star since 1938. Ruth also served as a ritualistic officer for the Star for many years. Additionally she was an avid sports fan and attendee of the Dolgeville Blue Devils for over 50 years. Ruth was also selected as the ?Person of the Year? at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, and had the honor to be chosen as the Queen of the Dolgeville Violet Festival. She is survived by her Daughter Sandra Neely and her companion Jerry Martyniuk who was a very special friend and care giver to Ruth, her Granddaughter Michele Neely and her companion Andre? Saltoun of Montecito, CA, her Sister in Law Dorothy Winsman a resident of the Van Allen Nursing Home, a Special Cousin Alice Matis of Dolgeville, additional cousins and many friends, also Michele?s dog ?Bo?. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 4, 2007 at 11 AM at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church on Helmer Avenue. Rev?s Rebecca Laird and Gertrude Ortlieb will co-officiate. Burial will follow in the Dolgeville Cemetery. Calling hours are on Friday from 5-8 PM at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Memorials in Ruth?s name may be made to the Dolgeville United Methodist Church memorial fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
