Obituary of Norma Johnson

MOHAWK - Norma M. Johnson, 78, a longtime resident of Shoemaker Road, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. Norma was born April 7, 1929, in Utica, daughter of the late Frederick S. and Edna (Washburn) Jowett. She attended Utica and New York Mills schools. On Aug. 9, 1947, she was married to Edward K. ?Ed? Johnson in Herkimer. They shared a devoted union of almost 59 years until Ed's passing on Aug. 2, 2006. Primarily a homemaker caring for her beloved family, at one time Norma worked at Allegro Shoe Co. in Little Falls for about 17 years. Norma was affiliated with the Herkimer County Fair Association as a volunteer for the past 30 years. She loved the fair and served as a director for 17 years. She shared many good times with her family, enjoying the outdoors and camping. She will be dearly missed by those who loved her. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Mayeda of Mohawk; one son, Wayne Johnson and his wife Debbie of Ilion; her daughter-in-law, Rose Johnson of Ilion; one brother, Sidney Jowett of Ilion; two sisters, Loretta Cool of Frankfort, and Karen Race of Texas; her cherished grandchildren, Roxanne Johnson of Ilion, Kenneth Johnson Jr. of Ilion, Tina Johnson of Ilion, Heidi Hitchcock and her husband Dan of Eagle Bay, Michael Johnson of Ilion, Charles White Sr. and his wife Lynn of West Winfield, Heather White and her fianc? Clarence Chester Jr., both of Rome; her great-grandchildren, Thomas Groom, Brandon and Dillon Johnson, Charles White Jr., Ariel White, Stetsie White, Owen and Logan Chester, and baby Hitchcock; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and fellow fair volunteers and directors. She was predeceased by her husband, Ed; two sons, Kenneth E. Johnson Sr., and an infant son Frederick Johnson; son-in-law, George Mayeda; and brother, Bernard Jowett. Family and friends are invited to visitation Thursday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Applegate, Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. Norma's funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home following visitation, with her grandson, Charles White Sr., officiating. Interment will take place in Mohawk Cemetery at a later date and time to be announced. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Norma's name to the Herkimer County Fair Association. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
