Obituary of Viola Klock

Viola M. Klock, 96, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Friday May 11, 2007 at St. Luke?s Hospital, New Hartford, NY. She was born April 13, 1911 in Herkimer the daughter of the late Leon & Maude (Pearl) Klock, and was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1929. Viola furthered her education at Cortland State College receiving her Bachelor and Masters Degrees. She used her GI Bill to accumulate 54 hours beyond a Masters Degree. Miss Klock was a World War II Army Air Corp. veteran, enlisting on November 15, 1944 and was honorably discharged on August 6, 1946 with the rank of Corporal. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in the Town of Ohio, NY. For 39 years, until her retirement in 1973, Viola was a teacher for Scotia ? Glenville School District in Scotia, NY. Viola was a life member of Christ Episcopal Church in Herkimer and a member of St. Mary?s Guild of Christ Episcopal Church. She was a 20-year member of American Legion Post 38 Auxiliary and the Herkimer Historical Society. Survivors include her second cousins, David Klock of Lancaster, PA, Paul Klock of Kirkville, and Robert Pett of Ilion, and many close friends including, Kathy Krawecki, James Kirkpatrick, Jennifer Kraszewski, Shirley Hoeschel, Nancy Conkling, Mary Angeloti, Tally Chuchman and Elizabeth Harrison. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Pearl Klock, in 1987. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 16, 2007 at 10:15 am from the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer and at 11:00 am from Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer, with Reverend Paul Bailey, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Tuesday May 15, 2007 from 4-7 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or to the Herkimer Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
