Obituary of Steven Kondratowicz

Steven Walter Kondratowicz, 61, of Sandy Lane Road, (town of Little Falls), passed away on Thursday evening, February 1st, 2007. His passing occurred in the comfort of his home with his family by his side, following a long illness. He was born in Clayville on July 27, 1945 and graduated from Herkimer High School. His marriage to Terry Young took place on June 17, 1978 in Herkimer, a deeply devoted union of 28 years. He retired from Remington Arms in July of 1995. Steven served with the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and other numerous medals after being wounded in the Vietnam War. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer and was a member of the Mohawk American Legion Post #25. He also belonged to the Herkimer Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4915 and also the Polish Community Home. Mr. Kondratowicz was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to fish, hunt, trap and camp. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. Survivors include his beloved wife: Terry at home; his daughters: Laurie and her two children: Elijah and Garrett of Puerto Rico, Francine and her son Michael of Herkimer, Paula and husband Harvey and their children: Samantha, Chelsea, Zachary, Christopher and Kyle all of Colorado; a son: Mark of Ilion; a brother: John "Sonny" Kondratowicz and sister in law: Betty; a brother in law: Red Miller; numerous nieces, nephews, and in laws. He was predeceased by his sister: Sylvia Miller. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 from 3-6 p.m. His funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Monday morning, Feb. 5 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor, will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial. He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery , Herkimer, in the spring, where full military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army. Members of the Herkimer VFW will conduct their service at the funeral home at 4 p.m. on Sunday and the Mohawk American Legion will conduct a 5 p.m. service.
