Obituary of Una LaPone

Una V. LaPone Herkimer ? Una V. LaPone, 84, formerly of East Herkimer and recently of St. Joseph?s Nursing Home, Utica, passed away on Tuesday March 20, 2007, at that facility. She was born December 19, 1922 in Dothan, Alabama, the daughter of the late Curtis & Verna (Newman) Adams and educated in Alabama schools. Her marriage to Joseph LaPone took place on July 12, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of 60 years until the passing of Mr. LaPone on February 23, 2007. At one time Una worked at Salada Foods in Little Falls. She attended New Life Ministries in Herkimer, and at one time she sang with the First Baptist Choir over WLFH, a former member of the Pentecostal Church Ladies Guild, a former Girl Scout Leader and Benton Hall PTA. As a caring and compassionate woman, Una considered her loved ones to be her foremost priority and her greatest happiness. As a mother and grandmother, she constantly demonstrated her loving, kind and generous nature along with her caring and considerate heart. She and her children and their families, who always enjoyed being together, shared a special closeness with one another and will be deeply miss the wonderful times they had together. Survivors include two daughters, A. Renee Cammarere and husband Mark of West Frankfort, and Betty J. Viana and husband Michael of Utica; a son, James Skipper and wife Patricia of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandchildren, Bianca and Rocco Cammarere, Erica and Krystal Viana, as well as five grandchildren, Donna, Della, James, Jr., Tony and Jason; and ten great grandchildren, Marcus, Jaime, Kirk, Robbie, Trey, Jennifer, Blake, Patrick, Madison, and Savannah; one local great grandchild, Brooke Fanelli of Utica, two great great grandchildren, Canaan & Kaitlin; and many nieces, nephews & cousins. She was pre-deceased by three brothers, James, Olphus and Alton Adams. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Thursday March 22, 2007 from 6-9 pm, and on Friday March 23, 2007 from 9 - 10 am. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 23, 2007 at 10:00 am from the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home and at 10:30 am from New Life Ministries, Herkimer, with Pastor Joe Jansen, officiating. Procession will follow to St. Mary?s Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Joe. All memorial contributions may be made to Central New York Alzheimer Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph?s Nursing Home in Utica for their kindness and compassion offered.
