Obituary of Michael Malavasic

Mr. Michael John Malavasic, Sr., 86, of Little Falls, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, with the love and support of his family by his side. He was born February 12, 1921 in Little Falls, the son of the late Frank and Suzanna Malavasic. He attended Little Falls High School and left to join the military in 1942. A World War II Veteran, he served as a field radio operator with C Company, 26 th regiment of Marines, 4th Marine Division and was awarded the purple heart for wounds sustained in the battle of Saipan. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and was of the Baptist faith. He married Emma Price of St. Stephens, South Carolina on July 9, 1943 and received his Bachelors of Science and Masters in Biology from Cornell Univesity in 1953. He was a Science teacher at West Canada Valley Central High School from 1956 to 1978. Michael was predeceased by his wife, Emma, his sister, Suzanna Kieloch and his brothers Frank, George, and Leo. His survivors include his sisters, Lillian Kaiser and husband Frederick and Rosemary Warren and husband Richard of Little Falls; six children, Michael and Katherine Malavasic of Ridgewood, New Jersey, Suzanne Malavasic of Little Falls, George and Janice Malavasic of Ilion, and Alice Malavasic of Wynantskill, New York; nine grandchildren, Suzanne Catalfomo of Kalispell, Montana, Kara Holcomb of Ft Collins, Colorado, John Mocko and Arthur Malavasic, of Philadelphia, David Mocko of Telluride, Colorado, Lindsay Wiley and Margaret Mocko, of Montrose, Colorado, George Malavasic of Providence, Rhode Island, and Sarah Malavasic of Utica, New York; and his five great grandchildren, Alina and Abby Sturgess of Kalispell, Emma and Callie Holcomb of Ft. Collins, and Trace Chaney of Montrose. Also surviving is an in law: Shirley Malavasic of Little Falls. Calling hours, to be followed by a prayer service are from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls. Interment will be in the spring. Full military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Michael's name to the Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter 133 Hilltop Road Sprakers, NY 12166 is suggested.
