Obituary of Peter Marchese

HERKIMER-Mr. Peter Marchese, 65, of 306 Bellinger Ave., Herkimer, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2007 in his home. He was born in San Guiseppe Jato, Italy, on January 18, 1942, son of the late Salvatore and Croce (LaMilia) Marchese and was educated in Little Falls schools and served his country with two years in the United States Army. On July 27, 1968, he was united in marriage with Rita Sorrenti in Toronto, Canada; a union of thirty nine years filled with love and dedication. Mr. and Mrs. Marchese own and currently operate Sorrenti's Pizzeria in Fonda, NY. Prior to opening the family pizzeria in 1984, he was employed with Chicago Pneumatic. He was of the Catholic Faith. Peter's foremost priority was his role of a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and brother. His life was dedicated to his loved ones, especially his grandchildren and he was always there for them with his love and care. Peter had a passion for the sport of soccer and hockey and truly enjoyed watching and participating in sports. He was an avid baker and no Christmas was complete without Peter's "famous" homemade Italian cookies. Survivors include his beloved wife, Rita at home; two adored children: Marina Martin and husband Charles of Mohawk, Luciana Egan and husband Butch of Herkimer; four cherished grandchildren: James Martin, Bianca Mabbett, Antonio Mabbett and Austin Egan; three wonderful brothers, Thomas Marchese and wife Ina of Little Falls, Vincent Marchese and wife Cathy of Little Falls, and Anthony Marchese and wife Kathleen of Utica; a devoted sister, Maria Sciortino and husband John of Mohawk; a brother-in-law, Charles Lamanna of East Herkimer. He is also survived by his beloved mother-in-law, Lucia Sorrenti; three brothers-in-law, John Sorrenti and wife, Clara, Frank Sorrenti and wife, Erica, and Peter Sorrenti; and three sisters-in-law, Carmella Varano and husband, Joe, Silvanna Ulisse and husband, Albert, and Marina Vitaro and husband, Gian Carlo, all currently residing in Canada; aunts and uncles in Italy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Giovanna Lamanna on September 13, 2003. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Marchese's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest.
