Obituary of Anthony Mazzara

ILION-Mr. Anthony Mazzara, 82, of Second St., Ilion, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Emergency Room, New Hartford with the support of his family at this side. He was born on January 20, 1925 in Utica, son of the late Salvatore and Mamie (Cosma) Mazzara and educated in Utica schools. He furthered his education by attending Hobart University where he obtained a degree in history, and received a master?s degree from St. Lawrence University. On February 15, 1958, he was joined in Holy Matrimony with Kathleen ?Kay? Horan in the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. The couple enjoyed a blessed and devoted union. Mr. Mazzara was an American History teacher in the Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District for many years, retiring in 1984. He was of the Catholic faith and a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation. In his spare time he enjoyed cooking, woodworking and exploring the Adirondacks. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family. Survivors include his wife Kay of Ilion; his children: Anthony J. Mazzara of Ilion, Cathleen T. Hendrick and husband Mark of Cicero, Timothy F. Mazzara and wife Kathy of Hauppaugue, Laura Mazzara and husband Timothy Lawrence of Averill Park; three sisters: Theresa Cosma Boor of Loudonville, Leonita Oliver of Clifton Park, and Emma Woolwine of Charleston, W. Virginia; his cherished grandchildren: Paul Anthony, Timothy M., John C., Sarah K., Christopher M., Stacy S., Nicole S., and Emily K.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Frank and Salvatore Mazzara and by a sister: Maria Wallace. The Mazzara family will receive relatives and friends at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, on Friday, December 28, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. Anthony?s funeral will commence at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, December 29th, from the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 2:00 p.m. from the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion where the Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor will celebrate his funeral mass. Mr. Mazzara will be laid to rest in the spring of 2008 in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Kindly consider memorial offerings in his name to the American Kidney Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral parlor. The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Eldridge and the dialysis unit of Faxton-St. Luke?s Healthcare for their care and compassion.
