Obituary of James McLaughlin

HERKIMER-Mr. James M. ?Jim? McLaughlin, 78, of Henry St., Herkimer, passed away on Tuesday morning, August 28, 2007 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He was born in Herkimer, the son of the late Fred and Anna (Lally) McLaughlin and attended Herkimer schools. Jim proudly served his country and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. On June 11, 1955, he was united in Holy Matrimony with Catherine T. Thomas in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer with the Rev. John R. Kehoe, officiating; the couple enjoyed a loving union of 51 years until Mrs. McLaughlin?s passing on January 23, 2007. For many years Jim was employed as a butcher for several area grocery stores, retiring from Great American in Little Falls. He was a devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Mr. McLaughlin treasured the times that he spent at his camp on Canadarago Lake in Richfield Spring. In his spare time he enjoyed working around his yard and creating flower baskets and enjoyed reading. Jim will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Jim was always well-respected and trustworthy in both his professional life and in his personal life, he was truly a man of integrity. Additionally, he enjoyed the company of many dear neighbors. Survivors include two children: J. Michael McLaughlin of Herkimer and Rita McLaughlin of Albany; a brother: Thomas McLaughlin and wife Margaret of Ilion; inlaws: Mary Mathers of Saratoga, Rita and Orm Ewers of Clinton, Jane and Jim Collins of Frankfort, Anne Blasting of Herkimer, Frances Thomas of Frankfort and Donald Kane of Herkimer; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother John McLaughlin and by a sister Helen Kane. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Thursday, August 30, 2007 from 4-7 p.m. Mr. McLaughlin?s funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Friday morning, August 31, 2007 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where the Rev. Mark Cunningham, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the St. Francis de Sales Regional Catholic School or to the American Heart Association. The family offers their gratitude to the entire staff of Bassett Healthcare, Herkimer and Cooperstown, for their kindness and compassion. Also, a heartfelt thank you to the many relatives and friends for the kind acts of sympathy offered during this difficult time.
