Obituary of Earl Mills

MOHAWK - Earl A. Mills, 89, of Marshall Avenue, a lifelong Mohawk resident, passed away Monday morning, April 2, 2007, at the Folts Home, Herkimer. Earl was born March 13, 1918, in Mohawk, son of Albert E. and Nellie (Ford) Mills. He attended Mohawk schools and was a graduate of Mohawk High School ?Class of 1936.? Earl was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. On Nov. 21, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Ackley at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Frankfort, a blessed union of 66 years. Earl was employed by F.F. Despard Co. in Utica as an industrial supply salesman for over 30 years. Prior to that, Earl worked at Sperry Rand Co. in Ilion for 17 years as a foreman. He was a life member of the Crowley-Barnum Post 25 Mohawk American Legion, at one time the Mohawk Kiwanis club, he was a member of the Mohawk Valley General Hospital Board of Directors, Herkimer Elks Lodge 1439, and, by his own admission, ?was a good bowler and a poor golfer.? Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary; five cherished grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and extended family. Earl was predeceased by his two sons, Lance Corporal David M. Mills, USMC, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1966, and Robert ?Bob? Mills in 2002; two sisters, Mildred and Edna, and one brother, Harold Mills. There will be no public calling hours or funeral service. Interment will take place in Mohawk Cemetery. Those wishing to do so may consider a memorial contribution in Earl's name to the Mohawk American Legion. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., Mohawk.
