Obituary of Marietta Polizzi

FRANKFORT-Marietta "Marion" (Grates) Polizzi, 86, of 318 Frankfort St., passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, June 25, 2007 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. She was born on March 4, 1921, in Frankfort, daughter of the late Joseph and Philomena (Curad) Grizzuto-Grates and educated in Frankfort schools. A lifelong Frankfort resident, she was last employed by Frankfort-Schuyler Central School as cafeteria manager for many years. She was employed at one time by Remington Arms and Remington Rand. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort. Marion believed that her place and purpose in life was taking care of her family by supporting them, helping them and caring for them as they did for her. She was the gentle heart and the generous soul of her family, the core of its very existence. Her love for her children and their families was steadfast, loyal and unconditional. Marion derived great joy and affectionate companionship from her grandchildren and especially her great granddaughter, Nicole. A woman of many admirable qualities, Marion possessed great strength of character, a kind and thoughtful nature and a gracious manner. She had a deep pride in her Italian heritage and its traditions; she shared them and passed them on to her loved ones. She loved her home, especially sitting on her front porch and welcomed and entertained family and friends on many special occasions. She was known and admired for her special talents of cooking and baking. Blessed with a "green thumb" Marion spent many hours taking care of her garden. In her spare time she loved watching Elvis movies and of course the New York Yankees. She will be sadly missed by her loving family; her son: Joseph Polizzi of New Hartford; her daughter: Phyllis Valent and husband Hank of Frankfort; two cherished grandchildren: Lisa Bonarrigo Seaver of Frankfort; Nicholas Bonarrigo and wife Kim of Concord, North Carolina; her great granddaughter: Nicole Seaver, who was the apple of her eye; and an in-law: Lucy Grates Grizzuto of Frankfort and by two special friends: Katherine Armstrong and Allan. She was predeceased by four brothers: Fred, Frank, George, and Joseph; three sisters: Rose Lilli, Frances Casale and Carrie Gazzilli; and by her daughter in law: Sally Polizzi. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Frankfort and Ilion, on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. Marion's funeral will commence at 9:00 am on Thursday, June 28, 2007 from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer will be offered followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort, with the Rev. John Yanas, Jr., pastor, officiating. Procession will follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort, where committal service will take place. Memorial donations can be made to the Frankfort Fire Department or to the Bulletin Fund, Religious Education or the Chapel Fund of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Masses may also be offered in her memory. The family extends its deep and sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff on the first floor at Folts Homes, Herkimer, for their friendship, concern and professionalism.
