Obituary of Raphael Richie

Raphael V. "Ralph" Richie, Sr., 86, of Arthur St., East Herkimer, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday evening, Feb. 6, 2007 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born on November 15, 1920, in Amsterdam, son of the late James and Lucia Richie and was educated in Amsterdam schools. On November 18, 1944, he was joined in marriage with Dorothy Kinney in Little Falls. The couple provided each other with constant care and compassion for 59 years until Mrs. Richie's passing on October 5, 2003. Ralph was last employed as a truck driver with Herkimer Wood Products. He was a farmer in the Little Falls area at one time and in his earlier years delivered coal and helped many farmers. He also was a truck driver for National Auto, Doeskin Company, and Gros Brothers. He was a member of the Local 182 Teamsters Union and a communicant of St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. Ralph enjoyed working on cars, gardening, and reading in his spare time. He was a friend to everyone and put the needs of others before his own. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and adoring great-grandfather he will be deeply missed by his entire family. Survivors include two sons: Ralph V. Richie, Jr., and wife Evelyn "Sue" of East Herkimer, and Michael D. Richie and wife Carol of Oak Harbor, Washington; two daughters: JoAnne Bouck and husband Richard of Ilion and Cheri-Lynn Richie of Oneonta; two sisters: Marie Perry and husband Frank of Little Falls and Katherine Fortucci and husband Fred of Little Falls; four cherished grandchildren: Richard Bouck, Jr., of Ilion, Christopher Richie of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Keith Richie of Rochester and James Richie of Oak Harbor, Washington; three great grandchildren: Zachary Bouck, Blake Voorhees and Gabriella Bouck; special friends: Charles and Joan Fink of Florida and Ellen Smith of Mohawk; also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers: Anthony and Nicholas Richie and by his sister: Margaret Franchino. The family will be present in the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007 from 5-7 p.m. Ralph's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Friday, February 9, 2007 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis deSales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor, will honor his body with Christian Burial. He will be laid to rest with his wife in St. Johnsville Cemetery, in the spring.
