Obituary of Eleanor Rider

MOHAWK - HERKIMER - Eleanor V. (Violet) Rider, 80, formerly of Herkimer, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion, following a long illness. Eleanor was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Herkimer, daughter of the late John and Catherine Mroczko. She attended Herkimer schools, and was a graduate of Herkimer High School ?Class of 1943.? She was united in marriage to Peter Ciesla in 1946, sharing an 18-year union until his passing in 1964. Eleanor then married George E. Rider in New Hartford on Feb. 4, 1967. They shared a blessed union of 28 years until Mr. Rider's passing in 1995. Eleanor was a dedicated homemaker wife, mother and grandmother to her beloved family. She was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church. Eleanor was an avid reader, amassing a large collection of literature. She also took enjoyment in tending her plants and flowers. Survivors include her loving daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Robert ?Bob? Morgan of Mohawk; her cherished grandchildren, Robert Morgan Jr. and his wife Kate of Mohawk, Daniel Morgan and his wife Lee-ann of Canton, N.Y., Peter Morgan of Mohawk, Mary and Marc Shepherd of Ilion; her great-grandchildren, Robert Morgan III, Morgan Short, Elizabeth Morgan, Jonathan Morgan and Benjamin Shepherd. She also leaves one brother and two sisters-in-law, Donald J. Mroczko and his wife Juanita of Fort Collins, Colo., and Donna Mroczko of North Carolina. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Mrs. Michael Kuzniak; three brothers, Walter, John Jr., and Edward Mroczko. In keeping with Eleanor's wishes there will be no public calling hours. Services will be private with Brian Engel, pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Eleanor's name to The Mohawk Valley Nursing Home Foundation, c/o Graves-Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., Mohawk 13407.
