ILION - Robert K. ?Bob? Roe, age 86, of Concord Street, Ilion, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2007, at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. Bob was born on Feb. 14, 1921 in Ilion, the son of the late Frank and Mary (Kenyon) Roe. Bob attended Ilion schools, graduating from Ilion High School. He also attended Utica College. Bob was a proud veteran of World War II (1942-1946), serving as a Sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of War. He was awarded the following decorations and citations in recognition of his service to our country. The American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. On June 26, 1948 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth ?Betty? Madigan in Ilion and shared a very special and devoted union of 59 years. Bob was employed by the Remington Rand/UNIVAC Co. in Ilion and Utica as a tool and dye inspector for 37 dedicated years. He last worked at the Remington Arms Gun Plant in Ilion also as a tool and dye inspector, retiring in 1985 with nine years of service for the ?Arms.? A Roman Catholic, Bob was a parishioner at the Church of the Annunciation, formerly an active member of the Ilion Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council 518, the Ilion-Frankfort Post 518 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a former member of the Herkimer County Family Caregivers. Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather satisfied in that role and working hard to care for them. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth ?Betty? at home; three daughters and one son-in-law, Christine Roe of Ilion, Cheryl and Constantine Arcella of Garden City, Long Island, N.Y., and Ms. Betty Bowman of Ilion; three cherished grandchildren, Charles Roberts III, Jaclyn Roberts, and Francis Bowman; one brother, Frank Roe of Herkimer; his sister-in-law, Jean Madigan of Ilion; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Mark Andrew Roe in 1990, and his sister Dorothy Krawczyk. Bob's funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, commencing at 10:30 a.m. at the Applegate-Day and Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion and 11 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where Father Anthony Barratt and Deacon Jim Bower will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, will follow Mass. Bob will be laid to rest beside his son Mark. Full military honors will be accorded at the grave. Family and friends are invited to visitation Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to Bob's funeral services at the Applegate-Day & Enea Funeral Home, Ilion By request of Bob's family, please omit floral offerings and consider memorials in Bob's name to the Herkimer County Catholic Charities or the Central New York Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home or church.
