Obituary of John Rostiser

LITTLE FALLS-Mr. John R. "Jack" Rostiser, 88, of 50 Arthur St., passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 26, 2007 in Van Allen's Nursing Home, Little Falls. He was born on March 1, 1919 in Rome, son of the late Carl and Marietta (Herbst) Rostiser and graduated with the St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1938. He furthered his education attending Plattsburg Aviation School and also attended Syracuse University. On May 12, 1945, he was united in marriage with Alma Beischer in St. Mary's Parish House, Little Falls with the Rev. Edward Heenan, officiating; a devoted union of 62 years. Mr. Rostiser was a proud United States Veteran serving during World War II with the Marine Corps. He enlisted on May 6, 1942 and was honorably discharged on June 8, 1944, holding the rank of Private, First Class and as a disabled veteran. He served in conflicts in Samoa and Auckland, New Zealand. Jack also participated in the initial landing of the 3rd Marine Division at the Empress Augusta Bay Area on the enemy held at the Island of Bougainville BSI. His last professional employment was with the U.S. Post Office (Little Falls) where he carried mail retiring in 1979 after thirty three years of loyal and dedicated service. Mr. Rostiser was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. He always remained active and devoted to the community holding a life membership with the Little Falls Elks Lodge #42, Little Falls VFW Post #4612, life membership with the Herkimer County Detachment of the Marine Corps League and life membership with the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a member of the AARP, Little Falls Municipal Golf Course and the Mohawk Valley Country Club. Jack enjoyed bowling and golfing in his spare time. Survivors include his wife beloved wife: Alma at home; a sister: Elizabeth Conrad of McLeansville, North Carolina; a sister in law: Nan Rostiser of Wildwood, Florida; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Carl Rostiser. Visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 from 5-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls, with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, officiating. Funeral procession will follow to Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls, where he will be laid to rest. Memorial offerings may be made to the Holy Family Parish Memorial Fund or to the Christ Lutheran Church, Petrie St., Little Falls; envelopes will be available at the service on Thursday and may also be obtained at the funeral home. The following organizations will conduct services at the funeral home this evening: Little Falls Elks Lodge #42 at 6:30 p.m., Ilion Marine Corps League at 6:00 p.m., and the Little Falls VFW Post #4612 at 5:30 p.m.
